On 17 October 2026, another edition of the Madrid Perrotón, a unique race against animal abandonment and abuse, will be held. This sporting event which takes place at La Zarzuela Racecourse seeks to raise awareness of the adoption and responsible ownership of animals.
The race will be holding its fifteenth edition this year, whereby its main objective is to promote and encourage the adoption and responsible ownership of pets in Spanish society. In its previous editions, the race has counted on the participation of more than 54,500 dogs, accompanied by their owners.
The 4.5km race will change it's route this year as it moves to La Zarzuela Racecourse. Over the years, the Madrid Perrotón has become established as the most important dog lover event in Spain and Europe for families to enjoy, encouraging adoption and responsible ownership and always counting on the enthusiasm and excitement of thousands of pet lovers from all over Spain and other parts of the world.
30% of the proceeds from registrations will go to the Perrotón National Non-Profit Association, which organises campaigns to raise awareness and foster the sterilisation and castration of dogs and cats for shelters with limited financial resources, as well as campaigns to prevent leishmaniasis, with the help and guidance of the Veterinary Clinical Hospital at Alfonso X El Sabio University.
