The Vallehermoso phosphorite track will shine once more with the best athletics on the planet on 19 July 2025 in the 42nd edition of the WACT/Europe Silver Meeting Madrid, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver circuit. A host of national and international stars will take to the track at the height of the season.
The history of athletics and the Vallehermoso Stadium are two concepts that have gone hand in hand throughout the decades, in which legends of the likes of Carl Lewis, Merlene Ottey, Allyson Felix, Blanka Vlasic, Said Aouita or Javier Sotomayor, among many others, have competed in the Madrid stadium.
Another famous chapter in the history of Vallehermoso was the defeat of Edwin Moses, who, at the time, was world record holder in the 400m hurdles and unbeaten for nine years, nine months and nine days (122 consecutive triumphs), to Danny Harris in 1987. Above everything else are the moments of maximum glory, the world records. The synthetic track at Vallehermoso has witnessed two world records since it was opened in 1961: the one-hour walking race record, set by Daniel Bautista from Mexico in 1978 with 14,430m; and the pole vault record set by Yelena Isinbayeva from Russia in 2005, when she cleared the bar at 4.95m.
