Martin Taylor & Ulf Wakenius

British guitarist Martin Taylor and Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius will be performing together at JAZZMADRID25 - Madrid’s International Jazz Festival. The two prominent jazz figures will create a unique atmosphere at CentroCentro on 15 November.

Martin Taylor is the son of bassist William Buck Taylor, with whom he began playing at the Quintette du Hot Club in France. Guitarist, composer, and guitar teacher, Taylor believes in the power of music to make the world a better place. He is one of the most important exponents of the fingerpicking guitar technique and solo jazz performances, praised by fellow musicians, fans, and critics alike for his fingerpicking technique, which involves plucking the strings with the fingers instead of with a plectrum.

On stage he combines virtuoso musicianship, emotion, and humour with a strong and captivating stage presence. On this occasion, he is accompanied by the instrumental optics of Scandinavian musician Ulf Wakenius, another notable artist who is often called on by the likes of Viktoria Tolstoy, Lars Danielsson, and Youn Sun Nah to perform with them.

Known for being Oscar Peterson's latest guitarist, and for his ability to create intimate vibes and make his guitar sound like an orchestra, in 1992, the artist released Venture with Jack, Bill Evans, Bob Berg, Randy Brecker, Niels Lan Doky, Chris Minh Doky and Lars Danielsson; followed by Back to the Roots; First Step; New York Meeting; Tokyo Blue (Scandinavian Connection, 2004); Notes from the Heart; Magic Moment, and Father and Son, among others.
