From 21 October to 17 January 2027, the Canal de Isabel II Hall in the Community of Madrid will host an exhibition of the work of the photographer, Chema Madoz, as part of the official programme of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 photography festival.
The exhibition brings together 94 photographs taken between 2015 and 2025, a particularly significant period in the artist’s recent career, whereby most of the photographs are being presented to the public for the first time. Through this selection, Chema Madoz invites visitors to enter into a visual universe built from unexpected associations, poetic metaphors and perception gamers that are so typical of his work.
Manual of a Distracted Mind proposes a reflection on the way of observing reality, considering a free and abstract gaze that is capable of altering the usual meaning of everyday objects and shapes. In his images, the minimal takes on new meanings and logic is transformed into a territory that is open to the imagination and to discovery.
The exhibition covers some of the main conceptual lines developed by the photographer over the past decade, maintaining his characteristic visual language based on black and white images, formal simplicity and the symbolic transformation of everyday objects.
Chema Madoz (Madrid, 1958), is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish photographers. His work is characterised by the creation of poetic and conceptual images in which everyday objects take on new meanings through unexpected visual associations. Throughout his career, he has received major recognitions, such as the National Photography Award 2000 and he has exhibited at many national and international institutions and festivals.
