The Madrid Luxury District (MLD) project will present the fourth edition of Madrid Luxury Art on 24 September, which is culturally managed, curated and sponsored by AGM Art Management. This year’s event will bring together various sculptures on the Golden Mile in the Salamanca district, more specifically on Calle Ortega y Gasset and Calle Serrano, as a way of bringing art closer to the urban space, featuring the work of the sculptor, Baltasar Lobo.
Baltasar Lobo (Zamora, 1910–Paris, 1993) is considered to be one of the leading Spanish figures in the development of modern sculpture. He came up with a revamped morphology of the female body and gave it an original dimension in 20th century art, creating abstract and angular forms without losing their figurative quality, making him a pioneer of modern sculpture.
This exhibition, curated by María Luz Cárdenas, is made up of seven large-format sculptures lining the Golden Mile on Calle Ortega y Gasset and Calle Serrano, and almost 20 small and medium-format sculptures located inside certain spaces in the area.
The result is a comprehensive overview of the artist's work, starting with his early creations. An exhibition circuit provides the public with a comprehensive overview of Baltasar Lobo's work in its various stages, generating a map of the themes and aspects that interested Lobo in his way of approaching the female body.
Furthermore, the selection of sculptures highlights two essential themes in his work: the female figure and motherhood. These bodies are constructed using a strategy of stylisation and moving lines, which transforms them into presences that address the context like music or dance in space.
