Madrid Collects. 50 Contemporary Art Collections

The figure of art collector is recognised in this exhibition organised by Centro Centro, in which the vital role of collectors to preserve and enrich artistic, cultural and social heritage is highlighted.  It can be visited from 26 February to 6 September. 

The exhibition is divided into five sections: “Contemporary Horizons”, “Beyond the Line”, “Shadows of Power”, “The Body as Territory” and “Constructed Space” and is made up of 100 works from 50 contemporary art collections.  Each collector has selected two works from his/her collection: one piece of special personal value and another that has recently been added to his/her collection. Through this selection, the exhibition reveals the less visible bonds that connect collectors to their works, while mapping the various sensibilities and motivations behind collecting.

Diverse works can be seen throughout the exhibition, both in terms of techniques and formats.  Therefore, the different rooms feature paintings, photography, drawings, sculptures, videos and installations, reflecting the wealth and plurality of the contemporary art scene and the dedication of those who ensure its preservation and future: the collector.
