This Christmas, the city will be able to enjoy a representative selection of one of the world’s largest private Nativity Scene collections, the Basanta-Martín Collection, at the Juan Genovés Cultural Centre (28 November to 4 January 2026); Eduardo Chillida Cultural Centre (1 to 30 December); Carril del Conde Cultural Centre (28 November to 3 January 2026), Santa Petronilla Cultural Centre (28 November to 4 January 2026) and at the Galileo Cultural Centre (11 December to 4 January 2026).
The Basanta-Martín Collection is one of the most important in the world with more than 4,000 nativity groups and 25,000 figures from 158 countries, pieces dating from the 18th century to the present day, made out of more than 200 materials, such as clay, wood and glass. This is all a reminder of the work of great craftsmen from different periods and Antonio Basanta and María de los Ángeles Martín’s passion for Nativity Scene art. They started collecting pieces in 1977 and have made a selection of their best pieces and groups to display them in different neighbourhoods around Madrid.
This collection can now be seen in Madrid as part of the Christmas programme, under the artistic management of Antonio Basanta and produced by Jesús Mayo.
