The flamenco singer from Jerez, José Mercé will be presenting a unique show at the Teatro Circo Price on 11 April in which he will perform Manuel Alejandro's repertoire through flamenco, accompanied by his characteristic personal mark and his renowned music
José Mercé will once more surprise the audience with a new project that brings together two essential names from Spanish music: his own and that of the iconic composer, Manuel Alejandro. In this show, Mercé will perform some of the most emblematic songs by the composer from Cadiz with a flamenco soul.
With a career spanning more than half a century under his belt, the flamenco singer brings a fusion of flamenco tradition and melodic song to the stage, accompanied by his usual team: two flamenco guitars, percussion, three clappers, acoustic piano and double bass, in a staging that promises emotion and originality.
Since his debut in 1968, José Mercé has consolidated a unique career as a key figure in modern flamenco. His ability to connect with diverse audiences without renouncing his roots has made him an unquestionable reference. Born in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz) in 1955, José Soto Soto, better known as José Mercé, is a flamenco singer and member of one of the longest dynasties in Spain: he is the great grandson of Paco la Luz, nephew of Manuel Soto Monje, el Sordera, patriarch of flamenco in Jerez, and cousin of Vicente Soto, Sordera.
He was named Honorary Citizen of the province of Cadiz in 2005 and won the Medal of Andalusia in 2010 or the Odeón Award in 2020 for best flamenco artist, among other awards. He is therefore considered to be one of the greatest flamenco talents ever and a soloist of masses within this genre.
