The flamenco dancer, Israel Galván will perform a show from 5 to 7 June at the Centro Danza Matadero (CDM), which pays tribute to the Golden Age of flamenco from the last third of the 19th century to the first third of the 20th century.
Furthermore, Galván will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of this acclaimed production, a classic in his repertoire that he has performed hundreds of times worldwide. For this special edition, Galván will be accompanied by the voice of María Marín and the guitar of Rafael Rodríguez.
Galván’s piece recaptures the purity, creativity and spirit of the historical masters, reinterpreting the classical codes of flamenco dance from a contemporary perspective. The result is a production that combines virtuosity, technical rigour and a deep connection with tradition, inviting the audience to experience the essence of flamenco in all of its splendour.
Born in Seville in 1973, Israel Galván is one of the most innovative contemporary flamenco dancers and choreographers. His career is characterised by an experimental approach, in which the body becomes the vehicle for artistic and emotional exploration, constantly redefining the limits of flamenco.
Throughout his career, he has won many awards, highlighting both his talent and his contribution to flamenco. They include the Vicente Escudero Prize at the National Flamenco Art Competition in Córdoba (1995) and the Desplante Prize at the Cante de las Minas de La Unión International Festival (1996) and the Prize at the 1st Young Performers Competition at the 9th Seville Flamenco Biennial (1996). He went on to win the National Dance Prize in the creation category in 2005 and in 2014, he won three Max Awards for his show, Lo Real: Best Choreography, Best Performance and Best Show.
