The Belgian director, Miet Warlop, one of the most original voices of contemporary European theatre will present a performance that reflects on the creative process through an allegory of the sea and waves, on 4 and 5 March at the Conde Duque Cultural Centre.
In this piece, Warlop addressed the creative process and combines dance, visual arts, performance and theatre in a choreography that is a poetic and powerful ritual. The show is inspired by the coming and going of ocean waves, inviting contemplation on breathing as a reflection of the artistic process: a constant, unpredictable and ever-changing flow. The staging, accompanied by music from the Deewee label, is developed against the symbolic immensity of the horizon, where tranquillity and storms co-exist. The bodies in movement turn the mystery of the creative acts, its turbulence and beauty into mysterious gestures. Ideas emerge, dissolve and are formed again like waves, creating a choreography that swings between delirium and calmness.
More than a performance, the production proposes a sensory experience: an ode to movement as the source of imagination. Dance, visual arts, theatre and performance come together in its deployment in a ritual concert that explores the link between individuals and groups. The result is a poetic and ironic composition that celebrates creation as a shared phenomenon.
Miet Warlop is a stage artist born in Torhout (Belgium) in 1978 who has a Master’s Degree in Multimedia Arts from KASK (Ghent). She is renowned for her multidisciplinary approach, producing innovative and experimental performances combining elements of theatre, performance, music and visual arts. Her works are characterised for being immersive and embracing experiences for the audience in which themes such as identity, knowledge and the relationship between technology and humanity are addressed.
She won the Franciscus Pycke Jury award and the Best Young Theatre Work Prize 2004 for her graduation project, Huilend Hert, Aangeschoten Wild. Springville, Dragging the Bone, Mystery Magnet or Fruits of Labor are some of her shows that can be highlighted.
