On 24 and 25 October at the Centro Danza Matadero - CDM, the Lali Ayguadé Company will be performing a show that looks into how social media shapes our identity and perception, generating disconnection and anxiety.
Directed by Lali Ayguadé with the participation of the actors Anna Calsina, Joana Gomila, Linda Pasquini, Diego Sinniger, Piero Steiner, Lisard Tranis and Akira Yoshida, the show explores how we build our on-line image, only revealing what we want others to see, while hiding our doubts, fears and negativity.
Although each profile appears to be unique, they all end up following similar patterns, trapped in the constant search for likes and comments that feed an impression of emptiness and dependence. At the same time, real life goes on, ignored, whereby we focus on which filter best suits our latest photo.
Therefore, it delves into this feeling of instability that emerges on trying to reconcile our real identity and the digital one, reflecting on how technology transforms our perception of the world, our relations and authenticity itself, inviting spectators to question which part of their life is really being lived.
Born in Barcelona in 1980, Lali Ayguadé is an artist who studied music at the Liceu and the Barcelona Conservatory and dance at the Institut del Teatre and at PARTS. She has also worked with companies and choreographers, such as Akram Khan, Roberto Olivan and his Enclave Dance Company and Hofesh Shechter, among others. She has also developed a career with her own group and was nominated as Exceptional Dancer at the London Critics’ Awards in 2010 and as Best Creator in 2014. On the other hand, she starred in the short film Timecode, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, a Goya Award and a Gaudí Award, and was nominated for an Oscar in 2017.
