The successful alternative rock band led by the Scottish singer, Shirley Manson will be performing on 5 July in the Botanical Garden at the Complutense University (Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden) as part of the Nights at the Botanical Festival.
The alternative rock band from the United States and Scotland got together in 1993 as a result of the union between the Scottish singer, Shirley Manson and the American producers and musicians, Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker. Since its origins, Garbage has stood out for combining alternative rock sounds, electronic music, grunge and pop, creating an innovative and recognisable style.
The band rose to international fame with its debut album, Garbage (1995) which included songs like Stupid Girl, Only Happy When It Rains and #1 Crush, helping to consolidate the band as one of the most important bands on the 1990s alternative scene.
Version 2.0, one of its best albums which was nominated for various awards and included popular songs like When I Grow up, Push It and I Think I'm Paranoid, was released in 1998. The band went on to release other albums, such as Beautiful Garbage (2001) and Bleed Like Me (2005), exploring new styles without losing its musical identity. In 1999, the band released the title track for the nineteenth James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough.
Throughout its career, Garbage has been recognised for its ability to reinvent itself and for its influence on modern alternative rock. The band is still a leading reference in alternative rock thanks to its blend of sound experimentation, intense lyrics and a unique staging. In this concert in Madrid, the band will review its greatest hits, as well as more recent songs, including those from its eighth studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, released in 2025.
