Everybody loves to Cha Cha Cha. Bego Antón (PHotoESPAÑA 2026)

From 10 June to 30 September, Bego Antón will be presenting her work at Casa de América, exploring the universe of the Musical Canine Freestyle, in which women and dogs dance together to the beat of the music. This exhibition forms part of the Official Section of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 photography festival. 

This is the story of women who dance with their dogs and of dogs dancing with their humans. Musical Canine Freestyle is a choreographed discipline in which a person and an animal move together to the rhythm of the music, wearing costumes that converse with the chosen piece. Like all dance partners, they perform synchronised movements:  spins, jumps, rolls and movements that build a common narrative. In some cases, the bond between them reaches such an intensity that they both enter what they call the pink bubble, a state in which they seem to merge into a single being.

The photographer from Bilbao, Bego Antón (1983) documents this phenomenon, travelling through different states across the United States, from New York to Arizona. Her images capture not only the aesthetics of the costumes and the choreographies, but also the personal stories and the affection that lies behind each performance.
