The Botanical Garden at the Complutense University (Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden) is hosting a dual programme as part of the Nights at the Botanical festival in which the sisters, Estrella and Soleá Morente will present their own style and baggage with the best of the flamenco genre.
Estrella Morente, the eldest daughter of Enrique Morente and the flamenco dancer, Aurora Carbonell, has an extensive career and is considered to be a young asset of flamenco song. With a crystal clear voice, she easily moves between suggestive warm tones and emotional phrases.
She made her debut in 2001 with the album, Mi cante y un poema, produced by her father. Since then, she has released a further eight albums, the latest in 2021, Leo. She has also participated in the soundtracks of the films, Sobreviviré by Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes, Volver by Pedro Almodóvar and Chico y Rita by Fernando Trueba. Her career is full of hits and recognitions: she has won the Ondas Award for the Best Flamenco Creation and the Music Award For the Best Flamenco Album. She has also won two Amigo Awards and she was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2006. Her most outstanding albums are Mi cante y un poema (2001), Mujeres (2006), Autorretrato (2012) and Amar en paz (2014).
Soledad Morente Carbonell (Madrid 1985), known artistically as Soleá Morente, is one of those artists whose personality exceeds all expectations. The artist forms part of one of the artistic lineages on the Spanish national scene that has pushed the boundaries of creativity in numerous fields, as she is the middle daughter of Enrique Morente and the flamenco dancer, Aurora Carbonell, and sister of Estrella and Kiki Morente, who are both artists of song, dance and music.
Flamenco is almost innate to her although the artist does not consider herself to be a flamenco singer, and has found her own language in which she combines pop and flamenco. Considered to be unique and one-off, she is capable of moving through shifting ground with solvency, inspiration and emotion.
