Escaparatismos: the Language of Shop Windows

From 21 November 2025 to 31 May 2026, the Museum of Contemporary Art presents an exploration of the external appearance of shops, one of the elements that most strongly shape the identity of cities. Through their work, a range of artists have reflected the transformations experienced by urban environments, focusing on the shop fronts and display windows.

Located on the second floor of the Museum, next to the Ramón Gómez de la Serna Study, the exhibition brings together a selection of works by diverse artists who have been fascinated by the mirror-like quality of shop windows.

The exhibition journey begins with the essential figure of Alfredo Alcain, the artist who most successfully captured the poetic essence of shop windows in the 1960s, and continues through the work of Amalia Avia, the photography of César Lucas and the work of Gerardo Vielba. It also includes more recent contributions by artists such as Ángel Sanz, Ukrainian photographer Boris Savelev and Taiwanese artist Amy Chang.
