The San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts will host an exhibition from 9 June to 26 July devoted to the work of the artist from Alicante, Elena Jiménez, after recently being awarded the National Prize for Graphic Art by the National Engraving Museum.

The exhibition follows the career of Elena Jiménez (Alicante, 1965), renowned for more than four decades of research and experimentation into the resources, systems and processes to generate numerous images. Considered to be the leading prize for graphic art in Spain, on this occasion, the National Prize for Graphic Art recognises an artistic practice marked by the exploration of the limits of printing and serial images.

Visual artist, teacher and researcher, Elena Jiménez has developed a body of multidisciplinary work that ranges from drawing, photography, installations to ceramics, although graphic art plays a key role. Her work challenges concepts, such as reproduction and representation, incorporating three-dimensional installations, expanded graphics and proposals that combine abstraction and figuration.

Much of her work revolves around the body, fragility, resistance and identity, using visual strategies that invite spectators to reflect on physical and cultural violence, as well as on imposed social mechanisms.

The exhibition is co-organised by the National Engraving Museum, which forms part of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Madrid City Council’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport
