The award-winning virtual reality installation created by the Mexican director, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, will be on display in the Telefónica Foundation Space from 17 November to 15 February. Through an individual immersive experience, the installation places visitors in the centre of a journey of Central American and Mexican migrants and refugees, inviting them to experience something that goes beyond mere observation and becomes a sense of presence.
The installation, presented at the Cannes Festival and awarded a Special Oscar® in 2017 for its pioneering contribution to the narrative language and the immersive experience, is based on real testimonies and has been created with stare-of-the-art immersive technology.
The line between spectator and star is blurred, inviting an in-depth reflection on empathy, identity and the human condition and transforming the way of understanding the narrative in virtual reality. It has been on display in some of the world’s leading cultural spaces. The experience lasts around 20 minutes and includes several virtual reality stations.
Alejandro G. Iñárritu is a Mexican director, scriptwriter and producer. Known internationally for films like Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman and The Revenant, he has won five Oscars®.
