The Complutense University Botanical Garden (Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden) will host a concert on 16 July featuring the Scottish band, Belle & Sebastian as part of the Nights at the Botanical Festival. This concert celebrates one of the iconic albums of British Indie music, If You're Feeling Sinister, released in 1996.
Belle & Sebastian is one of the most representative bands of British Indie, which emerged in the 1990s. Originating in Glasgow and made up of Stuart Murdoch, Stevie Jackson, Chris Geddes, Sarah Martin, Mick Cooke, Bobby Kildea and Richard Colburn, the band has built a career around an elegant and timeless repertoire, influenced by record labels, such as Postcard Records and Sarah Records, as well as the legacy of The Smiths and the 1960s pop culture.
In this concert, it will be performing If You’re Feeling Sinister (1996), its second studio album and one of the most influential albums ever, accompanied by a selection of its best known songs. Its discography also features albums, such as Tigermilk (1996), The Boy with the Arab Strap (1998) or The Life Pursuit (2006), reflecting a constant evolution that has incorporated elements of sunshine pop, glam rock, soul or disco music.
In recent years, the band has demonstrated that its creative energy remains intact with the release of albums such as A Bit of Previous (2022) and Late Developers (2023), confirming the band’s relevance on the contemporary music scene. Its music continues to explore new sounds without losing the essence that has defined the band since its origins.
