The Bayreuth Festival Orchestra will be performing a concert at Teatro Real on 3 September prior to the official opening of the season. Under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado, this recital features a selection of excerpts from The Ring of the Nibelung and the participation of Catherine Foster, Klaus Florian Vogt and Nicholas Brownlee.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival, the theatre will host this concert in which the orchestra will perform a selection of excerpts from Richard Wagner’s opera, The Ring of the Nibelung.
The Bayreuth Festival Orchestra is one of the most prestigious and unique symphonic ensembles on the European opera scene. Founded in 1876 by Richard Wagner to mark the opening of the Bayreuth Festival, the orchestra was created specifically to perform his musical dramas in the pit of the Festspielhaus, a revolutionary design that sought to balance sound and focus the audience’s attention on the stage.
Unlike other permanent orchestras, its members come together each summer from leading symphonic ensembles and opera theatres in Germany and other European countries, which adds a high artistic level and an exquisite performance tradition. Throughout its history, the orchestra has been conducted by some of the most influential conductors of classical music, such as Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Pierre Boulez and Christian Thielemann.
