Bailar al Gallo: music and dance for the Generation of 1927

Teatro de la Zarzuela will be premièring a new flamenco production on 17 and 18 December that seeks to revive the spirit of the Generation of 1927 through music and dance.

The production features Olga Pericet and Marco Flores and is based on the dialogue between tradition and the avant-garde that shaped a generation determined to explore new paths without renouncing its roots. Spain is portrayed as a country between two eras. On one hand, tradition, ancient song and inherited forms and on the other hand, the need to experiment with new languages, sounds and forms of physical expression. The Generation of 1927 emerged in this transition space, whereby the meeting point between the past and modernity became one of the driving forces behind its artistic creation.

The performance explores this spirit of exploration and renewal. Music and dance become the languages to delve into an era in which artists from different disciplines shared the desire to transform Spanish culture and to establish a dialogue between popular traditions and contemporary artistic movements.

Olga Pericet is a flamenco dancer and choreographer from Cordoba who is one of the leading figures in modern flamenco. Her career has been marked by research and the revamping of the flamenco language. She won the National Dance Prize 2018 in the Performance category.

Marco Flores is a flamenco dancer, choreographer and director from Cordoba. His career combines tradition and contemporary creation. He has worked solo and alongside great figures from flamenco and won the National Flamenco Prize awarded by the Chair of Flamencology in Jerez.
