The Finnish metal band will be performing on 18 November at La Riviera as part of its latest tour Plays Metallica Vol. 2 Tour 2024. With this tour, Apocalyptica continues a journey that began in 1996 with its debut album, when the violoncellists of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki performed a symphonic tribute to Metallica.
Apocalyptica, the symphonic metal and cello metal band was founded in Helsinki in 1992 by four cellists who graduated from the Sibelius Academy of Classical Music. It gradually made its way onto the international music scene thanks to its passionate and innovative cello-metal proposal. A surprising fusion and a genre of its own was gradually developed.
Their creativity, strength and charisma brought about a successful career creating their own compositions. In 2016, the band celebrated 20 years since the release of its first album that brought it worldwide fame, Plays Metallica By Four Cellos, with cover versions of classics by the legendary band, Metallica, along with their favourite instruments. To celebrate it, the band released a re-mastered album with three bonus tracks: Battery, Nothing Else Matters and Seek & Destroy.
Numerous concerts later, the Finnish group and the classic dynamos are returning to their roots to close the circle of a legendary story. The leader and founder of the band, Eicca Toppinen, says that it is incredible to think that after all these years our tribute to Metallica still speaks so powerfully to people.
