Alterations. Stories, Tales and New Narratives

From 16 June to 13 September, the Royal Collections Gallery offers a reinterpretation of its spaces and collections through the artistic interventions of four contemporary photographers: Bleda and Rosa, José Manuel Ballester, Teo Barba and Andrés Pachón.

The exhibition seeks to modernise official narratives and offer new ways of understanding classical art from a contemporary perspective, in order to foster dialogue and feedback between the historical collections and contemporary creativity, encouraging proximity to different artistic approaches that help expand forms of presentation and narratives.

Each photographer focuses his/her work on a specific aspect of the Royal Collections Gallery.  Therefore, Bleda and Rosa focus on the reign of Charles V, José Manuel Ballester examines the pictorial tradition linked to the monarchy, Teo Barba reflects on the Royal Sites and Andrés Pachón investigates the mechanisms behind the official images of 19th-century portraits.

Subtly integrated and in dialogue with the royal collections, their contributions broaden horizons, revisit historical events and places and generate new narratives and stories around the performativity of photography, characterised by subjectivity, intervention and the contextualisation of the images.
