Alejandro Cartagena. Ground Rules (PHotoESPAÑA 2026)

The Recoletos Hall at the MAPFRE Foundation will host an exhibition from 6 June to 30 August focusing on the work of the Dominican photographer resident in Mexico, Alejandro Cartagena, in collaboration with the San Francisco Museum of Art. Visitors will be able to explore the work of an artist who showcases the complex reality of Mexico, including migration, housing, the border with the United States or the urban transformation, among other topics.

Throughout his prolific career, Alejandro Cartagena has built up a body of work that defies the traditional concept of the “decisive moment,” to commit to seriality and the multiplicity of perspectives as the cornerstones of his work through a critical and humanistic eye.

Cartagena’s photography offers a coherent and multifaceted vision of contemporary challenges, inviting visitors to look at them from multiple perspectives.
