The district of Carabanchel, very close to Madrid Río, is home to the world’s first contemporary culinary art gallery. It opened in September 2024 and provides an interdisciplinary space where different artistic expressions based around food and cuisine can converge.
Morfo was created by Argentine artists Asesina Suárez and Lisandro Illa, who state that part of the purpose of this project is to reclaim the status of cuisine as an art form, to give it a new space, a new dimension in which to develop.
Spread over an area of 150 m2, it is distributed across three different floors with open plan spaces. It is open to exhibitions of all kinds, including sculptures, paintings, installations, performances and investigations, as long as they explore the topics of food and cuisine. Through their exhibitions, they want to reclaim the art of cooking as a legitimate form of artistic creation, with the same relevance as painting, sculpture or video art.
