López-Dóriga Palace

This palace located at the Paseo de Recoletos, in front of the Palacio del Marqués de Salamanca was commissioned by Francisco López-Dóriga to the architect Francisco de Cubas, also known as marqués de Cubas.

The ground floor of the building was used for commercial purposes of the owners and the other two floors were their living quarters. The architectural design is similar to the adjacent palace of Marqués de Alcañices consisting of a basement, ground, main and top floors. It also repeats the tendency towards the order and symmetry of the openings and balconies of the façade. The exterior decoration, however, is simpler: the window moldings and the linear friezes on both sides of the balconies on the main floor are the main elements. The ironwork, very characteristic of Cubas’s works, should also be mentoned.
