With a consolidated artistic trajectory, from 1989 to the present day, the Jorge Alcolea gallery has always been in the service of the best modern painting.
When it first started out, it exhibited and supported the work of young artists, many of whom are now renowned nationally and internationally, and over time it has been able to retain this spirit, combining its own portfolio of established artists with a particular dedication to up-and-coming young Spanish artists.
The surname Alcolea has been linked to the artworld since 1973, when Alfonso Alcolea and Teresa Albero opened the Sala Nonell gallery in Barcelona. Dedicated to Modern Art, they exhibited the works of Marià Fortuny, André Masson, Grau Sala, Picasso, Juan Gris, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquin Mir and Ramón Casas from New York to Buenos Aires, cities where the gallery had branches. In November 2019, the gallery reopened as Jorge Alcolea – Nonell with an exhibition titled The Pheasant Hunt, curated by Enrique Juncosa.
Currently, Jorge Alcolea coordinates the galleries in Madrid and Barcelona, combining his focus on contemporary painting with the conservation of antiques and Modern Art, showing a strong commitment to the family tradition.
