This gallery is located in two adjoining premises: an old garage of a building from the 1920s and the auditorium and theatre of the adjacent convent, in the heart of the Chamberí district. It houses a very large exhibition area that, since 2005, has demonstrated its international vocation and its desire to show stage exhibitions.
Cayón specialises in mid-twentieth century and contemporary artists focusing particularly on spatial relations and conceptual themes, paying special attention to movements such as Minimalism, Kinetic Art, Neo-Conceptual Art, Geometry and Neo-Geometry and the integration of media such as video and performative art. The gallery builds relationships between established and emerging artists while creating unprecedented dialogues related to public spaces and visual perception.
In addition, this space plays a fundamental role in the conservation and promotion of the legacy of influential Spanish artists such as Joan Miró, Julio González, Pablo Palazuelo, José Guerrero, Joan Hernández-Pijuan and Juan Giralt.
Its programme presents exhibitions of contemporary and twentieth century artists from abroad within the local narrative, whilst also promoting the work of contemporary Spanish artists worldwide. It has hosted major exhibitions by the likes of Mel Bochner, Alan Charlton, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Jan Dibbets, Dan Flavin, Dan Graham, Nancy Holt, Minjung Kim, Yves Klein, Marco Maggi, Anthony McCall, Enrico Castellani, Joel Shapiro, Jesús Rafael Soto, and Stanley Whitney and Bernar Venet.
Galería Cayon has two more branches in Manila (Philippines) and Menorca.
