This building, designed by architect Luís Gutiérrez Soto in 1964, is one of the most representative on the Madrid skyline, which must not be confused with the Spanish Unión y el Fénix Building on the Gran Vía, one of the first skyscrapers in Madrid that has housed the Petit Palace Alcalá Torre hotel since 2006.
This tower was built to mark the centenary celebrations of La Unión y el Fénix Español, as the decision was made to create new headquarters for this insurance company. It is a 19-storey building, with a black frontage, crowned with a sculpture that symbolises the name of the company. Inside, the frescos on the ceiling of the assembly room are the work of artist Joaquín Vaqueo Turcios.
It is currently the headquarters of the insurance company Mutua Madrileña.
