This peak, and its little brother Cabeza de Hierro Menor, standing at 2381 and 2374 metres respectively, are the second highest peaks in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range and the highest in the Cuerda Larga section. They are named after the fragments of magnetic iron (hierro) to be found close to their summits.
It's located along the boundary between the municipalities of Manzanares el Real, to the south, and Rascafría, to the north, in the northeast of the Region of Madrid.
