Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid

Located in the former Madre de Dios Dominican Convent School, founded in the 17^th century, the Alcalá de Henares Regional Archaeological Museum provides an educational review of the history of the region that makes up the Community of Madrid from prehistoric times to the present day.

Its collection reveals the history of Madrid through material evidence of its past. In this way, it includes the evolution of the landscape and fauna until the arrival of early man, the life of these settlers, the first producing societies, the Roman occupation, the Middle Ages and the transfer of the Spanish Court to Madrid from Valladolid. It also has a section devoted to archaeology as a science and its presence in the Community Madrid.

The museum has guided tours available of its permanent and temporary exhibitions, and for people with visual impairments. All tours must be booked in advance by calling 91 879 66 66.

Coinciding with its 25th anniversary, the centre will be known as the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum as of June 2022, incorporating the Valley of the Neanderthals -Pinilla del Valle- and Llano de la Horca -Santorcaz- sites.
