Close to the Plaza Mayor, this century-old shop, which opened in 1887, can be traced back to a partnership between Cesáreo del Cerro and Fernando Villaverde, the current owner’s great-grandfather. The business was set up in a shop in Calle Concepción Jerónima and was devoted to the storage of tanned hides and cuts for shoemaking, leather goods and clothing. This partnership continued until 1903, when Fernando Villaverde passed away and his widow took over, continuing the business in Calle Colegiata.
The business now specializes in the sale of ornaments, including all kinds of fasteners and buckles, as well as other materials related to leatherwork. In some cases, the work remains artisanal, though some manufactured pieces are also now employed. In any case, the articles produced are unique and highly specialized. The store’s customers include businesses and individuals who buy either directly from the store or through the internet.
