The Chamartín district, next to the Cuatro Torres Business Area, is home to this renovated municipal market, which has become Europe’s first market school. Opened in 1974, it has recently been renovated to offer quality gastronomy in the northern part of the city, as well as an innovative training concept in food-related professions.
This unique building which is clearly visible from Calle del Conde de Torralba is home to this market located in a privileged area, next to the Cuatro Torres financial complex and among the rows of houses of the Colonia de San Cristóbal, known by many as “las ochocientas”, an architectural project led by architect Secundino Zuazo during the first half of the 20th century.
The market has several fresh produce stalls (butcher`s, fishmonger´s, greengrocer`s, delicatessen...), as well as a restaurant to savour a variety of dishes prepared with products from the market itself. It also offers a service of ready-made dishes to enjoy at home or in the office.
It also has a catering service adapted to all kinds of events, ranging from business meetings to private celebrations, and it organises different types of activities: evening meet-ups, workshops, tastings, etc.
San Cristóbal Market School is a distinctive project supported by the NGO Cesal, which allows vulnerable young people to learn various trades within a food market, thereby facilitating their entry into the job market.
