Next to El Retiro Park, this bakery/coffee shop serves traditional regional pastries and confections from around Madrid, some with recipes dating from the 17th century, made by the best bakeries in the region, many of which have been around for over 100 years.
The décor was designed by Ana Palazón (Anuski) and José Luis Arrizabalaga (Arri), both art directors for Alex de la Iglesia. The menu of sweet and savoury dishes is different from the typical fare you usually find in such places, prepared by Marta Cardenal Duce.
It includes francisquitos from Guadarrama (cream filled buns dipped in chocolate), ombligos from Pinto (small sponges coated in chocolate with strawberry topping), aguamanil from Alcorcón (almond and brandy sponge cakes), costrada from Alcalá de Henares (puff pastry filled with meringue and pastry cream, topped with almonds), and bizcotelas from San Lorenzo de El Escorial (chocolate covered sponge cakes), among many other delicious treats. In addition, they offer an exquisite selection of savoury dishes, sour dough breads and speciality coffee.
