This store located in the heart of Madrid, in the neighbourhood of Malasaña, began as a herbalist in 1866, founded by Rafael San Jaume Riera, from Catalonia. In 1926, the business was bought by Manuel Riesgo, and since then it has been selling and distributing chemical products for different sectors, becoming a unique one-stop shop in its sector. After a brief closure in the summer of 2024, the founder’s great-grandchildren reopened the store in the autumn of the same year with the intention of continuing in the same spirit as when it was founded.
The place still retains its original look both inside and outside. Inside, there are almost five hundred wooden drawers with ceramic signs indicating the product they contain, cabinets full of products and a wooden counter where you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Asturian seafaring village of Luarca, where the Riesgo family is originally from.
Among other things, they sell chemical products for industry, fine arts, paints, restoration and laboratory reagents.
