Ludory was founded in 1929 by Alejandro Luis Utrera Baños and was originally located at 1, Calle de la Puebla. In its early years, the shop sold glassware for lamps, tableware, glasses and household items. After the Civil War, the business started to specialise in high-quality lamps, spare parts and components.
Over time, Ludory has become the most traditional store in the sale, repair and restoration of lamps and other lighting fixtures. Its lighting designs are used in the Senate, the Bank of Spain and various Ministries, as well as in classic buildings, such as theatres, museums and palaces, including Liria Palace.
It has also collaborated with the film industry in films such as Doctor Zhivago (1965), 55 Days in Peking and in several “spaghetti westerns” from the 1970s. In Spain, it has worked with Pedro Almodóvar, Alex de la Iglesia (800 Bullets) or Alejandro Amenábar (The Others), whose poster features an oil lamp from its collection. It has also appeared in television series, particularly period dramas.
In 2000, it crossed the road to 6, Calle Puebla, continuing this traditional business that has been passed down from father to son for three generations.
