The firm Castañer, based in Gerona, has been manufacturing espadrilles, sandals and shoes using natural materials since 1927, creating elegant, sophisticated, high-quality footwear. In 2010, the company received the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
Since introducing their espadrilles to the fashion market in the 1960s, actors such as Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Catherine Deneuve and the painter Salvador Dali have worn them. In the 1970s, they began collaborating with designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs.
Since the opening of their first store in Barcelona in 1994, the firm has expanded worldwide and is now present in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
In Madrid, Castañer footwear can be found in the Claudio Coello store in the Barrio de Salamanca neighbourhood, and there are also concessions in El Corte Inglés department stores, as well as shops in Las Rozas Village and Moraleja Green.
