This bookshop specialised in comics was founded in 1993 and since then has become a reference for fans of this genre, winning the Eisner Spirit of Comics Award in 2012 and 2025. It is a family-run and independent business specialised in the sale of comics, Manga, fantasy literature and derivatives.
Having had two previous venues, Akira (renamed The City of the Comic in 2017) now occupies large premises spanning more than 1,000 square metres, making it the largest bookshop specialising in comics in Spain and one of the main references in the sector in Europe, with sections dedicated to the different continents: Europe, Asia and America.
The decoration is both spectacular and immersive, making it impossible not to take photos in every single corner. Since March 2023, the section devoted to products from Europe has had an area architecturally reminiscent of a European cathedral, made of limestone, with Gothic-style columns, gargoyles, stained glass windows, transept vaults...
The area known as Baker Street, where the literature section is located, is also noteworthy with more than 300 square metres of floor space and whose decoration pays homage to the literary universes created by authors such as Tolkien, H.G. Wells or Jules Verne.

Akira also has an auditorium (with seating for 60 people) which is also a permanent (and free) Museum of Comic Originals, where all kinds of cultural events are held. It also regularly hosts children's storytelling events.
