Chueca is home to this century-old restaurant that serves home-made food and opens its red wooden doors twice a day: lunch and dinner. Everything is prepared with the flavour of traditional and simple home-made food.
Francisca Gómez and Jacinto Pinto opened the establishment in 1890 under the name “Tienda de Vinos” (Wine Shop), as they sold orange wine from Valdepeñas. In the 30s, it was nicknamed “Taberna del Guitarrista”, because the tavern keeper and musician, Vicente Gómez, used to delight customers with his guitar. It was known as “El Comunista”, since it hosted gatherings of regulars from the neighbouring “Casa del Pueblo”, and also “Casa Ángel” named after the father of the current owner, also named Ángel, the fourth generation of Miguel’s family.
In the 1960s, the adjacent house was added as a dining room.
Clients like the brothers Manuel and Antonio Machado, Azorín, Alberti and Jacinto Benavente are regulars at this tavern.
