In Plaza de Chueca, the heart of one of the city’s most cutting-edge neighbourhoods, is this century-old taberna, opened in 1908 with its current name since 1917, which is renowned for its history and spectacular decoration. Its vermouth is considered to be the best in Madrid.
The establishment is spacious, divided into two separate areas: the carved wood and tin bar, which is accessed from Plaza de Chueca and the former warehouse, with low tables, which is accessed from a side entrance. Its walls are decorated with beautiful tiles, 8 ancient oak vats and old bottles. On its ceilings, ancient frescoes can be seen, showing the passing of time.
Its menu offers a wide range of traditional Madrid aperitifs in addition to tinned preserves, canapés, pasties and rolls.
As an interesting piece of trivia, in 1995, it appeared in the Pedro Almodóvar film "La Flor de mi Secreto".
