Founded in 1906, this centenary tavern close to Puerta del Sol is still run by the original family, which has kept the essence and authenticity of the establishment. Famous since its origins for its rosquillos (ring-shaped pastries), rolls and sweet wine, it also serves its popular prawns prepared in a variety of ways, as well as other tapas and typical portions of Madrid’s cuisine.
Today, La Casa del Abuelo has seven branches: the oldest at No. 12 Calle Victoria; the second at No. 5, Calle Núñez de Arce; the third at No. 57, Calle Goya; the fourth at No. 11 Calle Toledo (near the Plaza Mayor); the fifth at No. 11, Calle de la Cruz; the sixth at No. 17, Calle Sáinz de Baranda, and the seventh at No. 9, Calle Victoria, which also has a terrace. They also have a winery in Toro (Zamora).
La Casa del Abuelo also has an online store where you can buy their wines. Additionally, La Viña del Abuelo organises guided tours of the winery, tastings and other activities centred around wine.
