Beyond an attractive menu, Café de Oriente, founded in 1983, has something that makes it unique: it is located in the vaulted basements of the former Convent of San Gil, a 17th century building whose outbuildings today serve as the rooms of this restaurant. Inside, while you savour exceptional dishes by candlelight, you can enjoy some equally appetising views out towards the Royal Palace and the square after which it is named.
The menu, prepared by chef Roberto Hierro, encompasses a wide range of dishes, from traditional to more avant-garde offerings. It also has several group menus for all kinds of events.
There are different rooms suitable for each occasion such as family gatherings, a meal with friends or professional meetings. Indeed, Café de Oriente has the capacity to host all kinds of events.
The prestigious Spanish illustrator Antonio Mingote found his inspiration for the daily cartoons he drew for the newspaper ABC right here at table number 9. Currently, this table is a corner that pays tribute to the talent of someone who was a great friend to Café de Oriente.
