This Basque tavern, which combines tradition with a modern and contemporary twist, adapts time-honoured Basque cuisine to today’s gastronomy, featuring a small menu that’s nevertheless full of simple and authentic dishes notable for their top-quality ingredients, seasonal produce and reasonable prices.
San Sebastián native Nagore Izazuegi heads this small establishment in Calle Ponzano, which features a typical bar where customers can enjoy pintxos, the Basque country’s take on tapas, before moving to a dining room with space for 28 diners. In the kitchen, which is visible behind a large pane of glass, chefs cook up dishes like truffle croquettes or rib steak and stewed cheek.
The wide range of vermouth and cocktails is also particularly noteworthy.
