One of the most admired rock artists will be performing in a single concert in Spain on 8 October at the Teatro Real, where she will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of her first album, Horses (1975), accompanied by her band of musicians. The North American artist is behind great rock hits like Dancing Barefoot, Because the Night, People Have the Power, Pissing In a River, Ghost Dance or Free Money.
The singer, songwriter, writer, activist and pioneer of the punk explosion in New York is undoubtedly a key figure in popular music of the last half century. Accompanied by her usual trio of musicians: Lenny Kaye, Tony Shanahan and Jay Dee Daugherty, as well as her son Jackson, her concerts stand out for their emotional and intense poetic charge.
Patti Smith boasts an extensive musical career that kicked off with the release of her debut album Horses in 1975. Thanks to this project, the singer known as “the godmother of punk” introduced a feminist and intellectual point of view to music and became one of the most influential artists in rock music.
Released on 10 November 1975 on the Arista Records label, Horses is regarded as a monumental recording is still relevant for new generations of musicians and artists. The album has won many awards over the years, such as the Charles Cros Award, and it features iconic tracks like Gloria, Birdland, Kimberly or Free Money.
Now, 50 years after its release, the singer pays tribute to the album with a series of special concerts performing the whole repertoire. As usual, Patti Smith will be accompanied by two members of her original band, Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty, along with the keyboardist/bassist Tony Shanahan, part of her band for thirty years, and her son Jackson Smith on the guitar.
