From 6 February to 15 March, Madrid will host the eighth edition of the international Madrid Design Festival, turning the city into the capital of design and positioning it in a privileged place on the international scene. The 2025 event includes Berlin as the invited city and will host around 200 activities, 20 exhibitions and more than 80 OFF spaces, Open Studios and showrooms.
The eighth edition will once more turn the city into a benchmark for this discipline with an extensive programme of activities featuring designers, specialists and professionals from the sector. Alternative creative environments, the unifying force of design, dialogue or the understanding between professionals, companies and institutions are the pillars of this latest edition.
Under the common slogan of previous editions Redesigning the World, the festival aims to advocate design as the tool that is capable of promoting dialogue and providing a new look at the problems and circumstances that mark our daily lives, offering solutions. In this way, design will enter into dialogue with disciplines ranging from science, fashion, music, art and crafts, but design will also be used to talk about issues that affect our society, such as depopulation or loneliness among young people.
The 2025 event includes Berlin as the invited city. The German capital has held the title of UNESCO Design City since 2006 thanks to its long tradition, ranging from the Bauhaus movement to post-modernism and the holistic futurism of the ICC Berlin, as well as contemporary digital and hybrid shapes. Twinned with Madrid, Berlin is one of the country’s main creative poles and its unique magnetism will be the main feature of this edition, with the presentation of talents that are transforming the design and cultural scene, such as the German studio, Gonzalez Haase AAS or the designer, Frank Oehring.
For yet another year, the festival will count on the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa as its headquarters, in addition to other venues, such as the Cerralbo Museum, National Archaeological Museum, National Museum of Decorative Arts, Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Spanish Film Library, Círculo de Bellas Artes and Fundación Casa de México en España, among others.
The festival’s main exhibition, La línea sueña (The Line Dreams), can be visited at the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa from 6 February. It is an exploration of light and space, bringing together 45 artists with 70 different pieces, including leading creators such as Davide Groppi, Michael Anastassiades or Massimiliano Moro.
The Madrid DesignPRO professional days will be back with leading national and international designers, a programme of conferences, master classes and networking opportunities in which design professionals will reflect on the capacity of this discipline to transform and improve society. Sir Paul Smith, Petra Blaisse, Patrizia Moroso, Mario Cucinella, Bethan Laura Wood, WE+, Kavita Parmar, Deyan Sudjic, Inma Bermúdez, Isern Serra, Cecilia Mosze Tham, Emiliana Design Studio, Inés Quezada, Hector Serrano or Zuloark are among those who have confirmed their participation.
Fiesta Design. The design experience for all
Madrid Design Festival brings design out onto the street in order to raise awareness and bring the general public closer to this often unknown discipline. With this spirit, Fiesta Design, is a project that has practically become a “festival within the festival” due to its relevance and scale. From 12 to 23 February 2025, diverse professionals, brands and audiences will have the opportunity to discover and interact with a space devoted to the design experience. The programme includes exhibitions, installations, talks and workshops for professionals and the general public.
