Tribute to the victims of 11-M. Atocha train station

The entrance hall between Atocha train and metro stations will be home to this new space to pay tribute and remember the victims of the Madrid terrorist attacks in March 2004. It will be officially opened on 10 March 2024, coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of this terrible event.

This space is located just below the place where the previous cylindrical monument stood, which has been dismantled as a result of the extension works on Line 11 of the Metro.

It occupies a total surface area of 2,000m2, quadrupling the space of the first memorial. Its walls are painted cobalt blue (chosen by the Victims Associations) and are engraved with the names of all those who died, along with some words of remembrance which could be read on the previous monument, written in several languages. Furthermore, 193 light points have been installed on the ceiling, representing each of the victims.
