Santarrufina

The history of this one hundred year old shop close to the Puerta del Sol dates back to 1887, when it was founded by Pablo Arteaga and his partner, a priest called Don Maximiliano, under the name of Casa Arteaga. It was devoted to the sale of religious articles. Pablo died in 1924 and its name was changed to Casa Clero. After being closed for a period during the Civil War, its former employees, José Santarrufina and Francisco Hera, reopened it under its current name. On 30 March 2026, it merged with another equally historic shop dedicated to religious and devotional items, El Ángel Arte Sacro, relocating to No. 3 Calle Esparteros, with the aim of preserving its legacy and ensuring the continuity of its service within a solid, modern structure that is fit for the future. This joint venture between the two stores is now known as El Angel Santarrufina.
