Halfway between the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza de Ópera, in the area known as Madrid de los Austrias, this emblematic café that opened in 1993 has been transformed by its current owner, the renowned bartender Julio de la Torre, into a space for connoisseurs of fine cocktails.
The venue, which retains the traditional marble tables and antique chairs that characterise the Madrid style, puts on a diverse cultural programme, from exhibitions of paintings to book launches. It is also a dog-friendly place.
Café Madrid has an extensive cocktail menu that puts a Spanish spin on classic cocktails, incorporating sherry wines such as Fino and Manzanilla, as well as extra virgin olive oil. They also have a variety of vermouths and non-alcoholic cocktails. All of them can be enjoyed with homemade cakes, preserves, and savoury snacks.
