From 29 September until 24 January 2027, Fundación Casa de México in Spain is presenting an exhibition that pays tribute to one of the most widely studied chapters in the history of 20th Century Mexican art, the Museo Dinámico, featuring over 56 works of art from the Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection.
The exhibition, curated by Magnolia de la Garza, is named after a phrase uttered by the artist Mira Landau in an interview about the Museo Dinámico, saying: It was daytime, it was evening, it was fantastic. The exhibition contains a selection of 56 artworks created using various techniques by 46 artists, mostly Mexican or living in Mexico.
It includes pieces by the following artists: Abraham Cruzvillegas, Alberto Gironella, Anri Sala, Antoni Tápies, Bas Jan Ader, Carlos Amorales, Daniela Rosell, Dayanita Singh, Dominique González-Foerster, Enrique Guzmán, Fernando García Ponce, Fernando Ortega, Félix González-Torres, Francis Alÿs, Francisco Ugarte, Gabriel Orozco, Gordon Matta Clark, Guillermo Kuitca, Haris Epaminonda, Helen Frankenthaler, Jack Goldstein, James Lee Byars, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, Jorge Méndez Blake, Joseph Cornell, Julio Galán, Laura Lima, Lawrence Weiner, Leonor Antunes, Lilia Carrillo, Liliana Porter, Manuel Felguerez, Maria Luisa Pacheco, Mario García-Torres, Marta Minujín, Miguel Calderón, Nestor Quiñones, Oscar Murillo, Pedro Coronel, Sarah Grilo, Tunga, Ulises Carrión, Valie Export, Vicente Rojo, Vivian Suter and Zao Wou-Ki.
The Museo Dinámico (1962-1967) was a project promoted by the architect Manuel Larrosa and Miguel Salas Anzures, transcending the traditional idea of a museum to become a space for artistic encounters, experimentation and collaboration. The aim was to promote avant-garde art and raise the profile of a new generation of creators who were exploring abstraction and modern artistic currents, offering an alternative platform to counter the lack of spaces available within public institutions at the time.
