A Place to Dance

A Place to Dance will be performed for the first time in Madrid from 15 to 17 October, at the Conde Duque Cultural Centre, a dance piece born out of the collaboration between Brazilian dancer and choreographer Poliana Lima and British flamenco dancer Yinka Esi Graves.

This artistic encounter aims to present the body in its collective dimension and to position dance as a powerful force for creating and transforming spaces. Drawing on their diverse cultural heritages, Poliana Lima and Yinka Esi Graves shape their choreographic discourse through dialogue and rhythmic interplay, in which rhythm is recognised as an ancestral, non-hegemonic form of expression. 

This piece opens up space and time, inviting the audience to tap into the potential of dance to turn any space into a place for dancing, a place where one feels at home – an event in which the audience is invited to take part by dancing and by watching others dance.

Lima and Graves present their choreography through a rhythmic dialogue, in which the sounds produced by their bodies are recorded live and edited, thereby creating a soundtrack that is constantly evolving and changing. DJ Oumoukala will be opening and closing the event.
