Forced to Hope

From 1 to 5 July, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) are presenting an immersive experience created by the NGO to raise awareness of the current situation in Sudan through a combination of culture, art and personal testimony.

The project consists of an exhibition and a virtual reality experience, through which visitors will be able to discover the wealth of this African country, such as its traditions, music and painting, as well as  the population’s dire living conditions since the outbreak of the military conflict more than three years ago.

The virtual reality experience tells the story of Mohammed Dafallah, who was forced to flee Darfur and now works as an anaesthesia technician with MSF in a refugee camp in Chad. Created in collaboration with the Blit studio, the project also features the artistic contribution of the Sudanese painter Rashid Diab and the Sudanese-American singer, Alsarah, who offer an intimate and human perspective of one of the world's most significant displacement crises.
